“Governments don’t reduce deficits by raising taxes on the people; governments reduce deficits by controlling spending and stimulating new wealth.” – Ronald Reagan
No New Taxes
We are taxed enough already. With the continuing recession and rise in gas prices, people are still struggling. We need to continue being tax-friendly to the people and businesses of this state. I will oppose any new forms of taxes, such as an internet sales tax or gambling.
Eliminate the Franchise Tax
The best way to create jobs is to eliminate tax burdens on our local businesses. The franchise tax is the biggest burden created by our state on small businesses. Ironically, the state calls the franchise tax a “privilege tax,” but it is essentially an income tax on our small businesses. If we eliminate this tax, businesses will have more funds available to begin hiring and investing in our communities.
Oppose Gambling
Generating revenues through gambling is essentially creating a tax on the poor. Additionally, numerous statistics show that the introduction of gambling into states has increased poverty and crime rates. Texas does not need gambling, and I will oppose any attempt to introduce it into our state.
